Program Overview

The Darcy Akers Scholarship Fund, Inc., (the Fund) was established by members of the Rotary Club of Ormond Beach in 1988 after the tragic death of a member’s daughter.  The Fund is a charitable entity organized under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS tax code.  The Fund’s sole purpose is to provide scholarships to deserving local students in an effort to assist their post-secondary educational pursuits.  The Fund was created in her name as a tribute and seeks to assist and encourage local high-school seniors to pursue post-secondary education with an emphasis on service to the community. Historically, the Fund has awarded a minimum of two 4-year scholarships since its inception.  The 4-year scholarship is distributed in four equal installments and is contingent upon the meeting performance standards.  Eligibility and award will is decided on by a contingent of local business professionals.

Members of the Rotary Club of Ormond Beach take special pride in having conducted annual golf tournaments to raise donations for the Fund which has provided more than $400,000 in financial assistance.
